Barcelona lost back-to-back home La Liga games after Sunday’s defeat to the lowly Leganes, which gave the chasing group the opportunity to catch up. Due to a header from Sergio Gonzalez in the fourth minute, Leganes upset Barcelona by winning 1-0 at Camp Nou on Sunday.

Following three consecutive home losses in all competitions in the twenty-first century under Xavi in April 2022 and two consecutive home losses under Radomir Antic in April 2003, Barca has now suffered three consecutive home losses. Oscar Rodriguez gave the visitors the lead early on when his corner kick found an unmarked Gonzalez at the near post, hammering the ball past Inaki Pena.

Robert Lewandowski came within seven minutes of tying the score, but Marko Dmitrovic stopped Raphinha’s cross. Then, during the first half’s stoppage time, Lamine Yamal raced forward, and Jules Kounde narrowly missed the restart.

Ferran Torres gave the home team their best chance to level the score in the last seconds by deftly flicking the ball into Koundé’s path, but Koundé managed to drag his effort past the post.

Barcelona leads its title rivals by one game, although they are still tied with Atletico Madrid and one point ahead of Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti’s team dropped points on Saturday, and Barcelona missed the opportunity to take a decisive lead at the top when Atletico won by a narrow margin.

Despite having only four of their 20 shots on goal, Hansi Flick’s team had an expected goals (xG) total of 2.67 at the end of the game. Additionally, they limited Leganes to just six shots, but the visitors’ total number of attempts on goal was the same as their opponents’.

They were even more irritated when Barcelona defeated Leganes with 80% of the possession, the second-highest by a side in a La Liga home loss since 2005–06.
